I am a father of three kids and my number one mission in life is to ensure that I take care of my family ensuring that they got all that they need and that they are happy at all times. This is a hard task to accomplish and many times I am not able to do as much as I would want to, especially with the high demands and expectations of kids.
My kids, like most other kids, are quite demanding and they never seem to realize the weight of their demands. When I was a kid, I remember that we were also quite demanding. We would ask for stuff out of the blues and if our parents were not able to provide them we would often feel very aggrieved.
Kids innocently ask for things that they admire and due to their naïveté they are not able to really fathom the value of what they are asking for. Kids will often ask for the most extravagant items and they especially seem to demand for the most expensive stuff that is always unreachable. The unfortunate thing is that the kids have so much faith in their parents and when the parents fail to get them what they want, mostly because they simply cannot afford the items, the children cannot understand and they might think that the parents are uncaring.
As a parent of three kids I would love to get my children all that they want but it is not possible. It is also not good to give them all that they demand for since it would only spoil them.
My children have been on my case for the past few weeks nagging me that they want to go boating. The notion of boating was introduced to them by their cousins who visited us one weekend. Apparently my brother in law’s family had gone for a kayaking trip and the children had really enjoyed themselves. Just like kids do, they had effectively boasted to my children about the experience.
During the first few days I though my kids would quickly forget about the kayaking thing just as they often did when any new exciting fad came up. They were however not letting go of this one. The song was always about going boating. Finally I agreed to take them on a kayaking trip last Saturday.
There is a kayaking resort close to town and I drove the family down. The resort was famous for having different kinds of kayaks offering different kinds of kayaking pleasures apart from white water kayaking since there were no fast moving rivers.
It was however mostly popular due to the recreational kayaks that it had that were especially ideal for novice users. Most of the revelers who visited had little or no experience kayaking and the resort had invested in creating a calm lake where beginners could comfortably manage their kayaks. Even small children above five years could navigate their own kayak.
I at least managed to meet one expectation from my children and I am glad that they enjoyed the outing, and so did I.
