Fishing is a superb outdoor activity for anyone who wants to have some peaceful time communing with nature. It is a great pass time for people who want to have some time thinking and meditating on issues about life. The quietness, lull of the waters, and the breeze make it an ideal atmosphere for one to get lost in the world of thought without any distractions… apart from when the hook catches.
Fishing is also widely embraced as a sporting activity. Mankind has many fishing events where people compete in different ways. The competitions can take a few hours, they can take days or even a whole year! Competitions vary with the location of the fishing and the skill categories of the fishermen.
Fishing is also a great means for people to bond. The fellowship that people have when fishing is very rich due to the fact that when fishing, all parties involved are focused a similar goal. The serene environment of quiet; and the beauty of nature that is devoid of the daily life distractions helps the people involved to be able to focus better on conversation and on each other’s needs.
I realized the importance and the benefits of fishing as an avenue for bonding quite early thanks to my father. My father loves fishing a great deal and in all my lifetime I have known him as an ardent angler. Growing up he would often take me along with him to fish in a lake that was near our home. This was despite some resistance from my mother who would say I was too young to be out there exposed to all the dangers of the outdoors.
My mother has never been very enthusiastic about fishing, although she once in a while tagged along on my father’s fishing escapades albeit after a lot of persuasion. She often pointed out that my dad had tricked her into agreeing to move into our house which was close to the lake. She said that my father had expressed so much love for the house and he had managed to convince my mother about the beauty of the house. She however says that my father must have loved the house mostly due to its proximity to the lake. My father insists that the lake was not his primary reason for wanting to move into the house.
When I was growing up, my father had two inflatable kayaks that he used for his fishing trips. When he took me along with him, he would use a Sea Eagle tandem kayak. The kayak was ideal for the two of us due to its large space that allowed more than one pilot. It also had a large storage area for other cargo. The inflatable kayaks were also beneficial since they were easy to carry around.
During the fishing adventures, my father would patiently explain to me a lot about fishing. He had some of the very best fishing gear which he was very proud of. He had some top quality bait casting reels and a very good fishing rod. He would keenly tell me about each of the fishing paraphernalia and educate me on how to use them.
